A custom fire pit is a permanent gathering feature built from durable block or stone, set on a compacted base and usually surrounded by a paver patio. We build ours with a fire-rated inner lining and a solid foundation so the structure stays level, safe, and good-looking through years of use and weather.
It is ideal for homeowners with an unused backyard, a plain patio that lacks a focal point, or a portable fire ring that tips, rusts, or burns the lawn. The best time to act is when you are planning a new patio or already have one, since the fire pit can be built into the design. When the job is done right, you get a safe, attractive gathering space you can enjoy in every season. It adds real value to your home and gives family and friends a reason to spend evenings outdoors.
A custom fire pit makes sense for homeowners who want a dedicated spot for cool evenings, cookouts, and entertaining. It is a great fit if you are building a new paver patio, if your current portable fire pit is unstable or leaves scorch marks on the grass or pavers, or if you want to give a plain backyard a focal point. Many homeowners also add one before selling, because outdoor living features appeal to buyers.
The best time to act is when you are planning or updating your outdoor space. Building the fire pit together with a patio lets us set the base, grading, and clearances correctly from the start. Fall is popular in our region since people are ready to enjoy the cooler evenings, but fire pits can be built through much of the year, and planning ahead often gets you a better spot on our schedule.
If you choose to rely on a makeshift setup, the problems tend to show up fast. Loose rings tip over, fire directly on grass or poorly prepared pavers can damage the surface or create a hazard, and a pit built without a proper base will shift and crack with frost. A well-built fire pit avoids these risks and saves you from paying twice.
Every project starts with a free on-site estimate. We visit your home, look at the yard, and talk through how you plan to use the fire pit. We discuss the size, shape, block or stone style, colors, seating, and whether you want a wood-burning or gas-ready design. We also review safe placement, including distance from the house, fences, trees, and overhangs. You then receive a clear written quote, and once you approve it we schedule the work and mark out underground utility lines before any digging begins.
On installation day, we lay out the fire pit footprint and excavate to the proper depth. We install crushed aggregate in thin layers and compact each one with a plate compactor until the base is firm, dense, and perfectly level. If the fire pit is part of a patio, we build the patio base and fire pit foundation together so everything sits at the right height and drains correctly.
Next, we stack the outer ring of blocks or stone, securing each course with construction adhesive and checking level and shape as we go. We then build the inner lining from fire-rated material designed to handle high heat, and we leave proper ventilation. A cap course is added on top for a clean, finished look and a comfortable place to rest your feet or a drink.
To finish, we lay and cut the surrounding pavers, sweep in polymeric joint sand, compact the surface, and clean the entire area. We then walk the finished fire pit with you and review safe use and care tips. You get a solid, attractive fire pit that is ready for your first evening around the flames.
The cost of a fire pit depends on several factors, and understanding them helps you plan with confidence. Size is the biggest one, since a larger pit needs more block or stone, more base material, and more labor. Shape matters too. A simple round design is efficient to build, while square, rectangular, or custom shapes with built-in seating take more cutting and layout time.
The materials you choose also affect the price. Standard concrete blocks are the most budget-friendly, while premium blocks, natural stone, and specialty caps cost more. A fire-rated inner lining is essential for safety. Choosing a gas-ready design adds plumbing and fitting costs, and it requires a licensed gas professional to connect the supply.
Site conditions have a major impact. If the fire pit is being added to an existing patio, we may need to remove some pavers and rebuild the base. If it is part of a new patio, the cost is shared across the project. Soft soil, tree roots, slope, and limited access for equipment and material deliveries can all add time and material.
Finally, add-ons will change the total. Seating walls, a larger surrounding patio, steps, lighting, and a connecting walkway are popular upgrades that add comfort and character. We go over each of these during your free estimate, show you what drives the price on your specific project, and, if you are working within a budget, help you find ways to phase the work or adjust the design.

Yes, when it is built correctly. We use a fire-rated inner lining, a solid compacted foundation, and proper clearances from your home, fences, trees, and overhangs. We recommend keeping a hose or extinguisher nearby and following your local fire regulations, which we are happy to help you review during the estimate.
Yes. We remove a section of pavers, rebuild the base and foundation for the fire pit, and reinstall or replace the pavers around it so everything blends in. If your patio is in good condition, we can often match the existing pavers so the addition looks like it was always there.
Requirements vary by municipality and by the type of fire pit. Some areas have rules about size, placement, and fuel type, and gas lines usually require a permit. We go over what applies to your project during the estimate, and we recommend confirming with your local municipality before building.
Wood-burning pits offer the classic crackle and smell and are the most budget-friendly. Gas pits are cleaner, start with a switch, and produce less smoke, but they need a gas line installed by a licensed professional. We can build either style and will help you choose based on how you plan to use it.
